At this NTV session, Ricardo Matheus from Brazil, who currently works with Big and Open Linked Data (BOLD) at TU Delft, told about the efforts of using Internet of Things to improve safety and security. Subsequently, Arjo de Vries, Strategy & Business Development at Siemens Nederland N.V, talked about Intelligent Infrastructure for the 21st century.

The future of IoT

2015 marked the first year in which there was more communication between things than between humans in the Netherlands. Worldwide, Gartner predicts that there will be 26 billion devices connected to each other by 2020. The Internet of Things (IoT) is thereby already invading our daily lives and the possibilities are immense. IoT refers to a collection of devices that are able to communicate and share data with each other. These devices get cheaper, faster and smarter all the time. The IoT has resulted in a trend towards more datificaton such as measuring our health, our behavior or the living environment. However, the potential and the social implications might change the future as we know it.
